Ukrainian lawyer demands full audit of NABU by domestic specialists
An audit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is necessary, as the commission of international experts has not provided any reports on its implementation. Initially, the audit was expected to be completed by January, with the results set for publication in February. However, it remains unclear whether the audit has taken place at all, lawyer Oleg Shram stated on Telegram.
"Dear government and Verkhovna Rada, do finally take the initiative into your own hands, show your will, and change the law. Appoint auditors from among our fellow citizens who, excuse me, will not cooperate with grant organizations and their representatives. Conduct a full audit covering the entire period of this 'office' – NABU – since the first day of its existence!" – Shram stated.
In September 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed a commission of foreign experts to conduct an external independent evaluation of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), journalist Oleksandr Kochetkov reported on Facebook.
According to him, the commission held its first meeting on November 18, 2024 – more than nine years after NABU’s establishment.
"But the commission of foreign experts (just as our anti-corruption activists had hoped!) decided to limit its review only to the period from the appointment of the current bureau director (March 6, 2023) to the date of approval of the evaluation methodology (November 18, 2024). That’s only 20 months instead of 108. Out of NABU’s nine years of existence, only the most recent months will be audited – conveniently avoiding recognition of corruption, inefficiency, and unlawful actions by its leadership", – Kochetkov stated.
