Ukrainian government aims to slow down the distribution of coronavirus in Ukraine and minimize sources of virus infection, declares Arsen Avakov, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Arsen Avakov, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, announced that officials might apply more strict measures to fight coronavirus outbreak in the country. He made this opinion public on his Facebook page.

“President and government took several harsh restrictive measures. We did it right, and we did it in time. Not too soon and not too late. We’ve tried to play it safe. It was needed, and probably restrictions are to get stiffer soon.”- noted Avakov.

According to him, Ukraine leans on the other countries experience on the issue.

“Our goal is to maximally slow down the spread of the virus in Ukraine, to minimize sources of virus infection, to give qualified medical treatment to affected citizens. We need to provide people and medical system with an opportunity to effectively workout cases of coronavirus disease”,- Avakov wrote.

He urged the Ukrainians who experienced even slight symptoms or suspicions to practice self-isolation and contact medical professionals by telephone.

“Only 20% of infected people need hospitalization, 80% are able to overcome the disease at home when instructed by a doctor (the experience of the other countries proves it). 5% need real intensive care treatment. 1% need maximum intensity therapy including artificial lungs ventilation, artificial kidneys and heart apparatus. Discipline when feeling unwell or even suffering light form of the disease would save lives of those from 5% and 1% who would really require utmost medical attention.  It is very important! Social distancing is something that every one of us can easily do. And it must be done.” – added the Minister.
