On August 6, combat operations began in the border areas of Russia's Kursk Region, as reported via Telegram by Alexey Smirnov, the acting governor of the Russian region.

"Fighting is taking place on the border in the Sudzha and Korenevsky districts of Kursk Region. Artillery and aviation are striking the enemy," he wrote.

According to him, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are attacking, and allegedly, the Russian army, together with border guards, has already destroyed "16 units of Ukrainian equipment."

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported combat operations in the Kursk Region, which, according to their statements, began at 8.00 and for the first time only at 17.05. According to their version, after artillery preparation, "up to 300" Ukrainian soldiers, supported by 11 tanks and "more than 20 armoured fighting vehicles," attacked Russian positions in the border villages of Mykolaiv-Daryino and Oleshnya, prompting Russia to deploy military reserves.

At 19.21, the Russian occupiers reported the retreat of the "Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group" to Ukrainian territory after being hit by fire.

On the same day, Ukrainian Telegram channels circulated a video allegedly showing Russian conscripts captured in the Kursk Region. In particular, Ukrainian military journalist and "1+1" correspondent Andriy Tsapliyenko showed a video with a "whole unit of captured Russian soldiers."

The Russian publication "Important Stories" confirmed that these were real Russian soldiers.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff did not comment on the fighting in Kursk Region. In the situation report as of 16.00, the Sumy Region, which borders the Kursk Region, is mentioned only in the context of Russian shelling with mortars, artillery, and aviation.

Telegram channels of the "Russian Volunteer Corps" and the "Freedom of Russia" legion, whose members fight against the Russian authorities on the side of Ukraine and have already conducted raids in adjacent regions of Russia, make no mention of the August 6 fighting in the Kursk Region.

Russian Telegram channels are reporting "complete chaos" in the Sudzha district of Kursk Region and are publishing videos of explosions and low-flying fighter jets.
