Preliminary reports indicate that seven people were killed in a Russian missile attack on Kyiv on July 8, as announced by the Kyiv City State Administration.

The deaths were confirmed by the head of the Kyiv city military administration, Serhiy Popko.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 11 people were injured, eight of whom were in the hospital.

Rescue efforts are ongoing at the site of the strike on the National Children's Hospital "Okhmatdyt," where people are helping to search for survivors amidst the rubble. Radio Svoboda published a video showing people assisting in the rescue efforts.

Darya Zarivna, Communications Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, shared a photo of an injured child who is a patient at "Okhmatdyt."

She posted another photo showing young patients with IVs standing outside the bombed-out hospital building.

Context

On the afternoon of July 8, the aggressor state, Russia, launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. The Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force reported threats to Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, and Donetsk regions. Casualties and damage have been confirmed in the capital and Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region. According to the head of the city defence council, Oleksandr Vilkul, 10 people were killed, and over 30 were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the occupiers used more than 40 missiles of various types. He also reported that Dnipro, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region were also targeted.
